Abstract

The "Learning by Doing" model within the context of Islamic education presents an innovative approach that fuses theory and practice, fostering holistic individual development. Emphasizing direct experience and active participation, this method finds its parallels in Islamic teachings, particularly in the Quran. It not only encourages mastery of knowledge through practical activities but also integrates intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects in the learning process. Practical experiences, exemplified in the stories of Prophet Moses and Khidr from the Quran, add significant value to learning, underscoring the importance of experiential knowledge acquisition. This model aligns with Islamic principles of education, which view it as a process of developing a well-rounded character and personality, and supports the concept of 'tarbiyah' in Islam, emphasizing lifelong learning. John Dewey, a proponent of pragmatic philosophy, developed this model to address contemporary educational challenges. His concept of experiential and participative education is pertinent to the needs of a competitive and rapidly evolving society. Dewey's democratic and egalitarian approach emphasizes learning through action to achieve comprehensive understanding and practical skills. In the context of Pesantren Islam Al-Irsyad, the "Learning by Doing" approach is implemented through activities that foster habituation, experience, emotional involvement, and exemplarity. These activities include congregational prayers, Quranic circles, social service projects, among others, all aimed at developing practical skills, attitudes, and religious values in students. The application of this model at Pesantren Islam Al-Irsyad demonstrates how it can be integrated into a broader Islamic educational context. It offers students opportunities for active and contextual learning, focusing not just on academic knowledge but also on developing practical skills and spiritual values. Particularly, the emotional and exemplary approaches play a crucial role in the learning process at the pesantren, creating an environment where students can grow intellectually and emotionally. This method taps into the best potential of students, preparing them to face real-world challenges in ways that align with Islamic values. Overall, "Learning by Doing" in Islamic education provides a rich and diverse educational approach, enabling the comprehensive development of individuals in all aspects of their lives. This method proves its relevance not only in modern education but also as an integral part of the long-standing tradition of Islamic education
